Being a bit of a DIY guy, I thought I'd give this install a shot. I bought a precut kit of real 3M film online for just over $100. It included a piece that covers about a third of the hood, and two pieces that continue that coverage onto the fenders. It also had pieces for the mirrors but i didnt use them (might cut them to fit the fogs). A shop would charge $400+ for this install so I figured I might as well try.
It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. You have to stretch the film to get it to fit, which was the only challenging part. I could do a second install much faster. Also getting the film to stretch properly over extreme bends (the hood's sides) was tricky. A second person would help a lot. My install does have a few blemishes but you really have to get in close to see them. I'm thinking I'll do the bumper next which is another $100 kit.
The hood piece layer out, but not squeegeed yet:
And the installed kit. Kind of hard to photograph!
It took about 4 hours but I am an extreme perfectionist and redid several areas a few times. If you want to try this yourself here are a few tips:
-The brighter the lighting, the better
-You need a garage to protect from wind and dust
-Go buy a new lint free rag. The lint free part is really important
. I had to peel up a few parts to remove threads, and that's from a new microfiber rag.
If anyone has any questions I'd be glad to try to answer them
