Default Biggest tire size

I know this has been beat up already but i cant find a lot of info on it. I have an 08 Big horn 4x4 quad cab. I need new tires and wondering whats the biggest i can go. I have no leveling kit or lift. Stock 20" rims. Ive been looking at 305/55/20, 295/60/20. I really like the Nitto Terra grapplers and Dune grapplers. I need a good AT tire so other ideas would be great. Thanks

I believe with both of those tires you will need at least a 2" level. Im sure someone else will chime in. There are a couple vendors on here that can get you a level kit. If you still like the rake just add a rear spacer to get it back. If your looking at a good AT tire I would stay away from the Dunes. Toyo makes 2 great ATs (Open Country AT/and the more aggressive ATII)Good luck.

Well with a completely stock setup no level or any lift you can run a 33" diameter tire as thats the stock height for the Rams you just have to watch the width so you dont rub with normal turns and especially at full lock.

Ive been looking at the HBS leveling kits. Will a 305/60/20 fit with the 2.5" kit. I dont want to buy wheel spacers.

with the kit it should fit the height as its a 34" tall tire but it may rub when turning as its a 12" wide tire if your running the stock 20's with no spacer due to the deep positive offset. I could be wrong so anyone feel free to correct my statement about the rub if I am.

I keep reading that some people have no problem with rubbing but then others do. Ill buy a leveling kit if i need to. I just hate to buy a 305/55/20 and it dont fit.

Height isn't really the big factor here. You can easily run a 34" tire on the factory suspension. You don't really "need" a level until you start getting into the 35" tires. The problem is the width. You are correct about some folks seeming to have issues and some not, however, the general consensus for the 06-08 trucks with OEM 20" rims is that 285 is the widest you can fit without spacers. There is a good thread on here from a member with an 07 that mounted 295/60/20 Trail Grapps and he had to run 1/4" spacers. The good news is that a 1/4" is all you need to run even 305's.

A 1/4" spacer isn't big enough to really cause any issues. Many folks have good luck with off the shelf cheapo spacers but Motorsports Technologies makes the best custom made hubcentric spacers that money can buy. There was a member on here with a set of them for sale recently if they are still available. Hope this helps.

I have the pair for sale mentioned above. I bought them and then ended up not needing them for my build out. They are $125.10 on Motorsport Tech website and it usually takes a couple of weeks until they get enough orders to do a large run of them. I will sell for $100 shipped to your door. They are definitely worth it over cheap auto parts store ones, as they are made specifically for the Ram OEM wheels and hubs so you never have to worry about tire balance issues. Mine are new in the box and have never been mounted.
