Default 6.1 cam question

Hey guys, I posted about picking between the Spartan Plus and SRT max cam. Think im gonna go with the Spartan Plus. But anyways I have a question on the cam. The Spartan plus is a 6.1L cam, as to the srt max which comes in both the 6.1L and the 5.7L. Whats the difference/advantages between getting a 6.1 cam compared to the 5.7 one? A little help.
If it matters I have a 04, 1500 reg cab, 4x4 with the 5.7 and the stock 3.92 gears. (daily driver).

Have you talked to Stu about the cam or are you just picking one based on what their website says? If you haven't, talk to Stu about what your end goals are and he could even do a custom grind that would suit you best, he did that for my '07 and I was quite happy with the results.

There's no difference in the cores of the two cams, the 6.1L can be swapped into the 5.7L with no major modifications, but it's recommended to upgrade your valve springs because of the high lift of the 6.1L cam. What makes them different is the pushrod length required based on the head used and the stock lift/cam profile. If you use a 6.1L-based cam then you'll need a different length of pushrod compared to a 5.7L based cam.

Thanks for the info CdnoilRAM. I have talked to Stu, he recommended the Spartan Plus or the SRT max. The Spartan Plus seems to be a better fit for me and my needs. I just wasn't sure what the differences might be between the 5.7 and 6.1. Im sure I will chat with him more. Thanks again!

Ok, if Stu has recommended the cam in your 5.7L, then you know there won't be any issues. I've dealt with him on my last 2 cams and he knows his stuff. Just make sure you pick up the recommended parts to compliment the cam so you are running a solid motor, not one that could fail down the road.
