Default MPG Hemi 8 speed and 3.92 Gears

What should a guy expect for highway MPG with a Hemi 8 speed and a 3.92 rear end?

With 3.21 and 3.92 as the only available options at this time, I'm leaning towards the 3.92s but want to know what I'm getting into with actual fuel economy. Ordering the truck this week.

thanks in advance

would like a little more info on what you are ordering and its purpose. but i have the 8-speed 3.92 and love them.(only 1000 miles on truck so ill post mpg's after 2000) my dealer would NOT let me even order 3.55's. he said if i wanted to do any mods to tires or towing 3.92 is the way to go. sure enough, did a 2 inch level and went with bigger 285/65/20 tires (no towing yet). if keeping completely stock and towing nothing more than cheeseburgers then go with 3.21. cheers mike p.s. i love my RAM.

I just rolled through 505 miles on my 8 speed Hemi 3.92 (Crew cab w/air suspension). The first 400 miles were 80% city and was averaging 12.4MPG. The other day i drove 100 miles of mostly highway and my lifetime average moved up to 14.3 mpg.

I have done no towing, only hauling the family around. MPG reported is the average as reported by EVIC from mile 0 to 505.

from everything that i have read, including the 2013 Ram 1500 brochure that you can get at your dealership

the 2013 Ram can be ordered with the 3.21, 3.55 or the 3.92 rear differentials
all 3 can be ordered with the LSD, ( limited slip differential )

3.55 is supposedly on restriction, and isn't available for order. Two options at the moment if ordering from the factory: 3.21 and 3.92.

I'm leaning towards 3.92 even though I see it as a little more than I need. I don't want less than I need, which is the 3.21.

I have the 3.92 gears 4x4 with Air. Just over 1000 miles on the clock.

At 60-65-70 mph I can reset the mpg and it will avg 17-19 mpg all day long. However with my commute my avg drops to 15.5 due to stop and go at each end of the commute.

The 3 fill ups have all been 14.5 hand calc.

So unless I go on a long trip I expect to get 14.5 on my 24 mile commute each way.

No towing yet.

By chance, did you get yours from Dave Smith? That was where I got mine and they had by far the best prices on Dodge Rams!
