Default Hauling weight in the bed

Took a load of scrap in the other day...Yes it terrifies me throwing a bunch of pipe into the bed of my truck, BUT it will always be a truck to me...ANYWAYS, equaled out to 1280 lbs of steel in the bed. The truck was pretty much sitting level with the load in it, but It didn't really effect power...at all. and In the 21 mile travel, the Bully Dog showed 17 mpg on the way to the scrapyard (all backroads). I was decently impressed to say the least!

What's the most you guys ever put in your beds?....That question could be taken in such a bad direction...

Here is a pic of my 2500 hauling 300 gallons of water. At roughly 8.3lbs per gallon (2,490lbs total), toolbox, and other tools the truck handles it like a champ. I've hauled the same load in several other 1/2 ton trucks and they would all haul it (barely) but they were hurting badly doing it.

Nice!! Gotta love it! She's taking care of that load like clockwork man. How does nearly 3000lbs effect your power?

She was about 315lbs...but she was a sweetheart.

oh..wait...

I picked up two truck bed fulls (above the bed rail) of pea gravel. I think a little over 1000lbs each load. She squatted a good bit..and only drove it a mile to my house and into my backyard. Interesting experience, my backyard slopes a bit and was squeezing through my fence gate which is barely wider than the truck. So i had to pull forward and up the grassy hill a few times. with the truck in 4wd, it'd idled up the incline without even touching the gas.

First off, well played sir...well played.

For the truck, that's awesome! Up a slight incline, in 4wd, and still idled up that piggy with half a ton on it. Good stuff.

Are you running the 3.55 gears in that truck?

I also hauled water in my truck, it was a 2007 4x4 Quad Cab. It was a 250 gallon tank. It comes out to about 2000 lbs. It squatted it down in the back. I did this to fill my swimming pool, so I hauled probably 100 loads, maybe 5 miles one way. This is one reason I ending up buying a 3/4 ton. Of course since I've had the 3/4 ton, I've never used it for anything a half ton wouldn't have done.

Keep in mind these trucks will usually tow a lot more weight than you can put in the bed of the truck, so power is rarely a problem when hauling a load in the bed.

I had a 9L Volvo marine diesel with ZF 305 gear. I'm not gonna tell you what it weighed, but a lot. I'd say my 31.5' fifth wheel travel trailer has almost that much bed weight. BTW my dealer installed extra leaf in the back and Rancho 9000's when my truck was new. 3:92's, wish I had 4:10's, but it tows well.
