Didnt realize they werent threded all the way up. If thats the case why not swing buy your local repair shop and have them run threads up the rest of the bolt? They shouldnt charge you more than a few bucks and can be done with any decent tap and die set, M8x1.25 is a standard size.

If the OP were closer I would tell him to come on by and I could do it for free.

Yup, this is true....they stop exactly where you need to cut.
But good point on threading all the way down
