Default Truck Tent!

So, I sold my camper this spring and bought a lake house. Looking forward to some family traditions and memories being made there! But I still have some camping to do, namely the big EAA Airventure convention in Oshkosh, WI that happens every year in July. So, in the tradition of RamTruckedness, I found myself a cool tent that attaches right to the bed of the truck. A new mobile home! I'm looking forward to giving it a go in a few weeks. Here's a few pics. (Pay no attention to the Non-Ram product in the background... It's a figment of your imagination... Nothing to see here... Move along...)

I picked up this one (Napier Sportz 57) from AutoAnything for $288 on sale a week or two ago. As of yesterday, they're still on sale. Since I have the short bed (5'7"), unfortunately I had to go with the camouflage one. Not unfortunate because it's camo, but because it's more expensive than the non-camo one (which is made for the longer bed).

I only set it up for the first time yesterday, so can't comment about its durability. It fits nicely, though. The common complaint on various forums that discuss this model is the instructions call for different-colored poles to go in their associated slots than what are supplied. So it took some time to get that sorted out. I made changes to the instructions as I figured it out, and marked the poles with a Sharpie so I knew which was which.

I'm taking it for its first run at the end of July, so should have more to report afterward.

Chris,

Looks great! Let me ask you this...any issues with the straps stratching or leaving marks on the paint of the truck?

Thanks!
Mo

None yet, but I only had it on there long enough to figure out how to set it up and see how well it fit. The tie down straps are elastic, and not the rigid nylon stuff. The plastic buckles for the adjustments are wrapped in protective fabric to keep them from scratching the truck.

If you look closely at the strap by the tail light in this photo from Napier, you can see what I'm talking about. The adjustment buckle is inside the fold of fabric.

It seems as though they thought through the details while they were designing it.

If you also added a BEDRUG, you may find that you could kneel & even sleep on the bed without a tent

does that 'bedrug' also repel or destroy mosquitoes, black flies, no-see-ums, sand flies, etc ?
