Default Almost ate it today

Today while driving on the freeway I had to take serious evasive maneuvers because some a-hole cuts me off.

Traveling in the #4 slow lane at about 70mph I see the traffic stopped ahead of me. I proceed to make a lane change into the #3 lane. As I almost complete my lane change a car cuts me off from my left side. I swerve hard back into the #4 lane with the stopped traffic. Within a second I had to decide to try and stop or swerve back into the #3 lane. I swerved hard back into the #3 lane avoiding the stopped traffic. There was no way I could of stopped without slamming into the stopped cars.

My conclusions...

1) at 56 years old my reflexes are still pretty good.

2) For a 4x4 these trucks handle pretty damn well. I mean, I had to swerve hard to the right, then to the left. I felt like I had complete control of the vehicle at all times.

3) I know everyone bags on the Goodyear Wanglers HP but they managed this situation pretty damn well. Yes they squealed but pushing that much weight at that speed it is to be expected and they held the road without losing it.

3) I am now rethinking about doing a level and AT tires. What if I did? Would I (or someone else) be dead after what just happened ??

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions welcomed.

Trousers are ok but the seat has a new crease in it.

Hahahaha I hear ya. Grow up out in the Canyon Country area so I know what it's like with that traffic.

Glad it all worked out for you.

I personally would've allowed the a-hole to hit me.... you clearly had the right of way, and the alternative could've been worse...

I say that, but my reflexes tend to over ride my brain more often than not...

I actually had something similar happen to me a week or so ago. I was even towing a HUGE trailer! A soccar mom in a mini-van decided to gun it around me (Three lane surface street) as I crested a hill doing around 45-50. I'm pulling around 10-12k (Skid steer and Crusher run) going down hill now, she doesn't look just starts to move back into my lane with her sliding door into the space my front right tire was occupying.

Seeing as I still have temp tags (Trucks only three weeks old!) I slammed on the brakes and the horn, trailer brakes kicked in and took me for a very interesting ride. Needless to say I'm impressed by how quickly it stopped, though not at how quickly she flipped me the bird.. without even slowing down.

I'm actually to the point of considering buying a dash cam. If I do, I'm going to start a Youtube channel called "(Colorful word) Drivers of Tulsa".

My company vehicle has the nice stickers all over it that read "Hit me, I'm sueable" so people tend to aim for it, it's even worse.

Glad you are ok and able to write about it. Gotta keep your wits about you at all times on the road, because they walk/drive among us. I have not tested the limits of my new Ram, though I suspected it would fair well. Your post is encouraging and confidence boosting should i be confronted with the need for an evasive response.

I just LOVE it when it's the other drivers fault, and they have the audacity to give you attitude about it!
I had some a$$ hole give me the finger after a near-collision incident that he was at fault for not too long ago. I calmly followed him to his destination, and when he exited the car I offered to fill the orifice of his choice with the offending digit. Unfortunately, he declined the offer and quickly returned to his vehicle, where his horrified female companion was waiting to console his bruised ego. People get this false notion that they are invincible when they get in their vehicles, and so they drive like a$$ holes with supposed impunity. They forget they have to stop eventually.
Rant over.
