people have good things to say about bilstein brand shocks.

of course there are a few other brands out there too

Not sure if you need it or not with the weight distribution hitch but you might want to take a look at the Monroe Sensa-trac load adjusting shock.

I agree that if you are sticking with a "regular" shock, the Bilsteins are hard to beat. They are OEM on many, many vehicles these days.

KYB over the Monroes any day. A friend who has been in the parts business for over 20 year has seen the cutdowns and said if you want a good shock to stay away from the Monroes.

KYB may indeed be a better brand than Monroe but to my knowledge KYB doesn't make any type of load leveling shock like the one I linked. I'm not saying it's the best. I just thought the OP may be in the market for something besides a standard shock. I have Monroe Sensa-tracs on the front of my Ram and like them just fine. IMO neither KYB nor Monroe are as good as Bilstein though.

if your looking for a good shock why not take a look at what the guys who have heavier duty trucks than yours have. i have a power wagon and they come factory with bilsteins. and the ride with them is pretty good. well as good as it can be on a power wagon. lol. they are a lil more pricey but remember your gonna get what you pay for. i spent 15 years turning a wrench and imo monroe are the bargain bin shocks that are the cheap way to go and don't last as long or do the best. don't forget to look at rough country or skyjacker or pro comp as well.

Looking at new rear shocks and may stay with the KYB. Price is reasonable and quality is decent. Later on I may change out to a Carli sustem.

I recommend either coil over shocks or air shocks they will help a lot with the extra load when towing. My dad put coil overs on the rear of his 05 and they say they have a capacity of 1,000lb IIRC. That's just the coils on the shocks, not the leaf springs. Obviously this doesn't increase the vehicles capacity on the sticker but it will only help. We've put 2,000 lb in his bed and it handles it good.

I got Rancho 9000XL's in the back of my 07 and I have no complaints. They're easily adjusted by just turning the knob on the bottom of the shock. Price is decent. Advance Auto Parts seems to always be running some deal where you can get some money off just about anything.

I just intalled ProCOmps new ProRunner series on the front and rear of mine and wow what a difference it made, I was going to go with the Bilstiens 5100 but i have a 6" lift and they dont make one that will fit. Ive only had them on there for a month but they are a sweet set up. They put them up against the Bilstiens 5100 series at the SEMA show and they couldnt tell the diference between the 2 . Check it out
