Default slow charging on start of engine.

I have a 2008 dodge ram 1500 and when I start it the volt meter takes awhile to go up to show that it is charging the battery. Is this common or is there something wrong with the charging system.

What does the voltmeter show and how long does it take to get up to 14+volts.

When it starts it is at 14 volts then 10 seconds later it shows it is charging on the gauge. I just put the charger on it and it is showing 100 percent duty cycle on the the alternator charging the battery so I am thinking that I need a new battery.

Well seeing that you live in Michigan.....it wouldnt hurt to replace it. I know when i lived there, it seems like the winters chewed up batterys quick. You may want to take it to Advance Auto Parts and have them test your charging system as a whole....and its free!
