Default Anyone running 18" Maggies with a res delete

I am going to buy a Mufflex set up, but I am thinkning the 14 might be too loud in the cab for confortable highway trips. So, I was thinking of getting the 18 and then deleteing the resonators. Anyone running this setup have any feedback?
Thanks

I have a straight through 14" muffler with resonator on my truck. If I were to do it again I'd get at least a 18" and still keep the resonator. I'd suggest doing the 18" and keep the resonator, if you want to remove it later you still can. It doesn't reduce volume a lot but mainly helps resonance(drone).

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Start with the 18" and if I still wanted more, then delete the resonators.
The drone is what I was worried about. So, you think the resonators help a lot with drone...?

yeah. they really do. and they don't hurt performance at all or anything so no reason to take it off really.

forget the mufflex, just get a mangaflow welded in. i had nothing but problems keeping my mufflex from coming loose. finally after three attempts to tighten it back up i just had a shop weld it in place. ended up costing me more than just getting the magnaflow to start with.

If I were you Id skip the 18 and get the 5x11x22 Magnaflow PN# 12588. Its the same muffler used in the magnaflow catback. When you delete the resonators it sounds fantastic! There is zero drone in the cab and the exterior sound is pure motor music. Thats what Im running.

A buddy of mine has the 14 Magnaflow with his resonators still in place and I dont love it.

In a direct comparison the 14 is louder, both inside the truck and out. However my 22s exhaust tone with the resonators deleted sounds deeper. The 14 drones to the point of annoyance, where as you have to listen to hear my 22 inch muffler while driving. When you step on it both trucks scream.

I think the lack of drone has to do with the 22 having a larger case size, it's a 5x11 instead of a 4x9.

Remember sound is subjective but I thought Id give you another option just to complicate things

With the 22 did you have to get custom pipes and hangers made to connect to the exiting exhaust?

The only problem with that is, if I don't like it, I have to cut the muffler off.
With the Mufflex, I can switch it out easily if I want something different.

I can weld, so if the clamps don't stay tight, I can always weld it myself. Although, I never have had an issue with those types of clamps in the past.

Yepp. I originally wanted a Magnaflow Catback however shipping to northern BC was too expensive so I went to my local muffler shop. They welded in the muffler, made new tailpipes and attached some really nice 18X 4 inch tips. It replicates the Magnaflow Catback in sound but for half the price. After hearing a side by side comparison with the 14 inch Magnaflow Im really happy with my decision. The fact that my truck still screams when I step in it and there is zero drone on the highway. I get the best of both worlds.
