Default Check Engine Light

I have 11,500 KM on my 2012 Ram. Today the check engine light came on. What's this all about?

The manual suggests I check the fuel filler cap, and to make sure the fuel is good. I am very low on fuel and will fill up tomorrow. Don't know if this is a factor.

I hate these damn check engine lights. The Pioneers didn't have them in their covered wagons and they did okay...meanwhile, should I contact my dealer if this doesn't go away soon?

Anybody have any experience with these pesky warning lights?

best thing is to find out what the code is, dealer can tell you, of if you have a tuner or a code reader, you can find out the code number, then you can ask RAMTech here at the site what it is.

Go to autozone and they will read it and tell you what the code is. I'm not sure if they will say what the code means.....but if not you can google it.

Fill it up with good gas and make sure the cap is on tight. If it doesn't go away take it in to the dealer and have them check it out. Might as well use the warranty while you have it.

A few months ago my check engine light came on due to having forgotten to plug in the mass air flow censer when I installed my CAI.. Ooops. What I did was unhook the battery for a few minutes and plugged the censer up, then hooked the battery back up, start, and all was good.

If it was me, I'd fill up making sure the gas cap is on good, unhook the battery for a few minutes and see what happens. If this doesn't take care of the check engine light I'd head straight to the dealer. With all the bull crap electronic stuff in these modern day cars I wouldn't wait around when that light is on, it may cause future problems latter down the road if went unchecked.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the input. One way or another I will 'git er' done!'

I did find a kit on the Internet guaranteed to fix check engine light problems witiin 20 seconds. Guran-friggin'-teed!

Only cost me $19.99 USD plus shipping and handling. The kit consisted of a half inch piece of electrition's tape. The instructions indicated that I should apply the tape over the check engine light icon. Problem solved.

Tks,

Rap
