Default 2013 RAM 1500 Maintenance Schedules

I just hit 40,000km and my SPort is exactly 1 year old this week.

Gets an oil change evry 10,000km

I got a warning light on today but nothing apparently wrong...anyway i called my dealer and told him since i did all this mileage in one year that it was time for a thorough service/inspection...whatever you want to call it.

this is my first truck and i don't trust dealers here in rural Alberta (bad experiences so far).

After takling on the phone he tells me there are three parts to the 48,000km service, which although my triuck is not yet due for...it will be in 2 months time so i figured i'd get that done now:

  • Inspect the CV joints.
  • Replace the transfer case fluid.
  • Emissions test etc.
  • Replace the engine air filter.
  • Replace the spark plugs.
  • 4x4 Service (can't remember what he told me it involved)
  • Some other stuff i can't remember

So i would like to know from our expert mechanic friends if there's anything missed from above.

I am doing alot of mileage and i would like my truck running pretty for the next 40,000km...

I got a shock when he told me the combined costs - over $1000 all in.

Appreciate your reply but I was looking for a little more detail. We can all look at the manual, which may or may not tell me anything.

I wanted some info on items to watch for which AREN'T in the manual. I'm sure based on reading any number of posts in this forum that there are things to consider...and which may or may not be needing looked at on a truck which has done 40k in 12 months.

I enjoyed pulling apart my Mustang and making sure it was in awesome condition for car shows, but i know nothing about HEMOs/trucks or 4x4 setups.

I would like to make sure these guys are doing their job correctly by arming myself with as much info as possible in advance. That's why i'm on this forum, right?

I like to keep my vehicle maintained, but some of this looks unnecessary. At 48000km (30000 miles), the manual shows the following:

Inspect the CV Joints
Inspect transfer case fluid
Replace Engine Air filter
Replace Spark Plugs

It doesn't talk about the transfer case fluid until 96000km (or 60000 miles), but only if it's in harsher elements. Normal driving it states 192000km (120000 miles).

thats alot of coin!

Can't be too hard to do the plugs yourself though. I'd try to go that route myself (if possible)

I also heard that the plugs are hard to get a hold of/expensive

I do believe that there are 16 plugs in the Hemi. It's a tedious job, but made easier with the right, specialized tools. Most vehicles get 100,000 miles out of the plugs. What's up with the 30K change?

Good question, there was a discussion on this a while back, just after the 2014 came out and new MY14 owners noticed their owner's manual called for a 100,00 mile spark plug change. From what I remember that was the only change, same spark plugs used in both model years, just a change in the service schedule.

I'm a first time Chrysler buyer so I don't have the history of the Hemi engine and don't understand why there is such a delta. Anyone?

you are right, 16 plugs in the Hemi. I'm sure it can be done in the driveway though...

I had a 99 Taurus with the 3.0V6 24V DOHC engine (that thing had balls) and the plugs on that were a pain in the ass. Had to take pretty much the top part of the engine off to access the back ones...

My 13 Laramie was built in June 2013. My owners manual says change the plugs at 100,000 miles.

Interesting, mine was built March of 2013, came with the 5th edition of the owners' manual (on back of the manual). Here is a shot of the spark plug schedule.
