i know a lot has changed in oil and oil filter tech, but i am being told that changing the mopar oil filter at 6500 oci is a waste. at that mileage the filter is just reaching peak filtering capability. never heard of this and have always changed filter at every oil change. am i just dating myself or am i just being fed some bs. tks all
any time after 5,000 miles, i would change it
i change my oil & filter right around 5000 miles & use Mobile One5w20 (from Walmart) & a WIX filter
i have just short of 84,000 miles on my '09 HEMI
besides a couple of bad factory parts, ie: exhaust manifold & a short runner valve issue
the only thing that has had to be replaced was the original battery, which i just changed today
If anything if you are running super longevity synthetic oil and only changing it every 10k miles I would change the filter only at 5k miles. Not that I would ever do this (run 10k miles on oil and/or filter), just saying.
If for some reason I was only going to change one or the other , it would be the filter. If you were changeing your oil why wouldn't you spend the 5 to 10 bucks for a filter ?
The mileage intervals are longer on the 4th gens, but you still have to replace filter when replacing fluid. I personally run full synthetic Valvoline and change every 6,000 miles.
