Default Extending backup sensor's and camera to trailer

We pull a 40 foot 5th wheel and are looking at backup camera systems and I was wondering if anyone has just extended the existing backup camera and sensors and if so how.

It would likely be easier (and cheaper) to just install a trailer camera system.
