I just tied mine into the power wire on the reverse light just outside the tail light housing.

Awesome! Great write up, I'll definitely be looking into that. I'd give you some more rep points for that but unfortunately the site won't let me after the ones I gave you on your stereo install

Did you install any connectors where the wires come through the tailgate into the bed to be able to remove it if needed?

That is the 1 thing i didn't do. I don't plan on removing the tailgate ever but if absolutely needed i would just fish the wires back out of the tailgate.

So, after reading this thread, I am going the same route. From my research, the camera only comes with about 10' of cable. Did you end up buying a RCA jumper to run to the deck?

I bought a 20 foot Video RCA and ran that from the deck to the tailgate. I don't believe the RCA on the camera was even 10 feet long so i kept it bundled up and did my connection in the tailgate itself.

On my dealership installed Parkview Camera
they ran the cable from the camera to the bottom of the tailgate & put in a connector
it connects to the other connector that is also a short wire that runs to the left side of the spare tire, where there is another connector, i believe that they made that one so that a person could remove the exhaust back there without messing with the wiring, from there it runs along the frame to the cab area

On my Ram there is a rectangular hole just above trailer plugs, they ran the wiring through it, instead of running it through the hole where you would access the cabling access for the spare tire, as in the OPs image

A tree attacked my tailgate & i drove around without it for a week
Here the the wiring was just tied off, out of the way, it is all there except for the camera itself

on some of the newer Rams that didn't come with the camera installed, you may see some parts in the glove compartment, those parts are for the tailgate wiring for the camera. Those parts hold the wiring in place at the tailgate connector & also help to slow down corrosion.

is there a writeup anywhere that explains how to add a toggle switch so that in addition to watching when engaged in reverse,, you can force it to think that truck is in reverse and watch on demand? like when towing or something?
