Default Got MY New Ram Yesterday -Impressions

I have read much of this forum while waiting the 2 months for my 1500 Hemi 8 speed air ride 8.4 back up camera, 3.92 gears. I have read a lot of horror stories so I would like to share my observations for what it is worth. I hope some of the Ram engineers read these forums. To start my paint quality is good, it is mineral grey metallic and it has a couple of real minor metallic sags in the hood (I paint restore and paint cars for a hobby) but is it very minor (1 inch long). The rest of the truck paint is very good production quality, better than my 2004 Dodge 1500 trade in. My air ride works great. Better ride than my 2004 with torsion bars. No tire rub etc. Seats and interior are average. I have read that the interior is much improved for this year. GEEZ it must have gotten bad to get better. My 2004 has more comfortable seats and nicer interior. One thing that I am really disappointed in the interior is the storage. The area compartments under the back seat are half the size of my 2004. I got the bench seat with fold down arm rest. The storage there is much smaller than my 2004 and the compartment in the seat bottom under the arm rest is really dinky. Its amazing to get the same back seat room as my 2004 I had to go from an extended cab to a crew cab because Ram shortened the doors and area in the extended cab. I paid a 1000 bucks extra for a bigger cab and still got less storage. My back up camera and 8,4 work great for now. No freezing or stoppages. The back up camera shows your wheel travel for both front and rear wheels pretty neat. The motor seems to work very well. I hear it as a 4 cylinder at slow speeds but the change to 4 and 8 in super smooth. I have 120 miles on it and the average mileage says 15.9. The sticker says the motor was made in Mexico. The 8 speed was made in Germany. I like the transmission very well the only unusual operation I have had is twice when slowing to a stop it will shift one of the gears kind of hard downshifting. It doesn't do it all the time. But that is also pretty minor. I have the 32 gallon gas tank and I cannot notice any sloshing at a stop so far. I am down to between a half and 3/4 now where that is suppose to happen. I don't notice it. The truck was built in Warren Mich. I have had 3.92's in my 04 truck and highly recommend them for towing. They are not too low with my old 5 speed auto and they should be super with the 8 speed now. I hope the electronics keep working on it. It is so computerized that I don't know if I am really driving or it is driving me. Hope this helps someone still waiting on delivery or thinking of ordering.

Thanks! I too am waiting on my truck and have been reading all the horror stories and can't help but to worry about what I bought. I have cone to the conclusion that people mainly post to rant/vent and look for help. I'm sure that for all the bad there are 5 good that don't post.

Nice write up. Thanks for sharing. No tire rub at full lock?

Got any pics?

Remember, every vehicle forum out there is filled with problems of their respective vehicles. Why? Because often times a forum is most helpful when you have a problem. For every 10 bad forum posts, there's another 100 truck owners out there that didn't go on the forum to say how their truck has no problems.

If everything I read on forums happened to my vehicle, then my WRX would have burned up a transmission, my CTS-V would have ruined a rear end, and my G35X's paint would have fallen off. I had none of those problems (everything else on the CTS-V failed, but not the rear!).
