Post Any good reason to want chrome clad wheels?

I was looking at a loaded Laramie yesterday and got down to check the chrome wheels and noticed the plastic feel I've seen mentioned in other threads. To me, it feels like the plastic hub caps I had on my cheap 95 grand am. I then looked at some aluminum rims on a model next to it and thought it looked so much better and higher end. My question is why would you want plastic caps that look like chrome on a 50k truck? Am I missing some benefit that I'm not aware of. I currently have a G6 with 17 inch alum rims and they have given me no problem and taken a beating over the 8 years I have owned that car. To me this seems like a bad design ideas akin to not putting auto climate in the mid level trims of the Ram. It should be an available option, not standard.

I've already ordered my Laramie but haven't look at the Mags that closely... Maybe someone already have them and could confirm if they are indeed molded plastic cover on top of a steel mag !!!!

Well, think of this way, when you get tired of the covers, pull them off, clean them up and you have new rims all over again.

Pretty sure they are aluminum under the covers.

I sorta agree. From what I understand is that it is for weight and appearance. I also feel the Longhorn wheels are a bit lacking in the looks department as well.

Overall my opinion is the wheels are Good from far, but far from good. Most people don't get close enough to the wheels to realize that they are chrome clad... I thought about changing them, but then realized if they are the least desirable of the ram wheels there is less chance of them getting stolen.

From what I have read, this is not worth the effort. Apparently these suckers are crazy stuck on the wheels.

I had chrome clad 20's on my 12 ram. Didnt know when i bought but after i knew it ruined it for me. I couldnt look at them without thinkin they were cheap. I just traded someone for the silver alluminum 20's

The chrome clads are for weight savings and appearance like stated above, but will also perform much better against weathering than a clearcoated aluminum wheel.

Absolutely -- and chrome clad is so much easier to clean. If you want you can wax/polish the chrome cladding, and even the nastiest of brake dust won't stick to them.
