The plastic caps suck WTF is Ram thinking? I got the dealer to swap wheels with a Bighorn on my 2011 Laramie and got 2012 limited wheels on my 2013 Laramie Hemi 8 speed. I wouldn't put after market wheels on a 1500 they need the centering hubs and large lug seats that I believe you will only find on factory wheels

It's not just RAM, it's every manufacturer. Why do you think they suck? The normal Joe doesn't even know they are clads, and I think they look nicer than a direct chrome plate wheel.

They were on my 2013 Express when I got it but clearly not an option I would pay $400 for. I didn't know about the plastic until I waxed them. Unimpressed

That's the great thing about winter, these clads hold up very well and even then, just use them as your "I don't care if I trash these wheels". And then buy yourself some show and go wheels for cruisin.

I don't know how you can not tell they are plastic, I knew it quickly after seeing them for the first time. But that is just me

This should not be a surprise to you guys. When the '02 Rams came out, the shiny 17s and 20s were both chrome clad.

I'd say I'm not a big fan of chrome wheels in general even though I like the chrome on the bumpers and grill. I guess the fact that I was surprised about the clad chrome is reflective of the general population - 95 out of 100 people probably won't realize they're not actual chrome rims. It wasn't until I looked into this that I realized Ram and everyone else is doing the same thing. In my opinion, I could do without them and its a bigger sticking point in that I really like the SLT with the big horn package but don't want those rims. I guess its another reason to special order.

Here's what I gathered from the posts so far about their benefits: (1) lighter; (2) resist the elements better; and (3) easier to clean or maintain.
I'm not necessarily sold on 2 or 3. Also, aren't they more prone to cracking if struck or tougher to repair if damaged than aluminum? They certainly wouldn't be good for offroad use.

As far as repairing them I would think they could simply remove the plastic piece and stick a new one on. From my understanding they are aluminum wheels under the chromed plastic piece.

Honestly, if you damage your wheel enough to crack the cladding, you are going to need a new wheel, so that's kind of mute. The claddings are not replaceable, hence the name cladding instead of wheel cover.

I agree! I like my chrome Clads, super easy to clean.
Ive had other rims on different vehicles over the years and brake dust was a major concern even with ceramic brakes.
The chrome clads are very easy to wash and detail.

As for the "cheap" look. I dont think so...heck if it fools that many people into thinking they bought "REAL" Chrome wheels...then that "cheap" look isnt all that cheap IMO
