So you are saying if you happen to crack the plastic that is attached with adhesive your wheel is toast and you need a new one? Yep I think I would just go for the aluminum wheels. I mean we aren't talking about a metallurgic bond here.

I have put about 200,000 miles on 3 Dodge trucks with chrome clad. This was through Arizona heat and sand and Tennessee salt and ice. They look as good the day I traded them in as the day I bought them. The last truck, 2007 Dodge RAM Big Horn, had an aluminium wheel on them and traded them out for the same wheel in chrome clad. In my opinion you cannot tell they are not a true chrome wheel even from 2 feet away.

I have had bad luck with chrome rims so I'm happy with the 20" aluminum painted rims coming on my sport. I bought 17" chrome rims for my high school car for $1500 and less than a year later the chrome was peeling off and no tires would hold air on them!! Never again.

I don't know how difficult it is to get the chrome off the wheels, but eBay is selling chrome wheel skins for rams.

I personally think the chrome clad 17" wheels on the 2500's are ugly. I looked at a few different trucks with the chrome wheels and couldn't buy one. I had the aluminum wheels on my last truck and I ended up getting the aluminum on this one and I'm glad I did!

No, I mean the claddings are protected by the wheel flange, so if you damage your wheel enough to also damage the cladding, you would need a new wheel. If somehow you got a side impact, like someone hit your clad with a hammer, then no, your wheel wouldn't be toast.

Those things are chinese made and barely have enough chrome on them to provide protection. I'm not sure how they even attach to the wheel, so they could cause more damage using metal clips on the aluminum then they are worth.

I noticed it right off, no way I'm going to drive a $35k+ truck around with plastic wheel covers. No WAY. Sorry guys that have them, I'm not trying to insult just saying that I agree with the WTF comment as in WTF is Ram thinking?? Better to go "naked" aluminum than plastic covers. But hey, if you're happy with that, more power to you. Just not for me.

Roadrunner I actually don't think those look bad in the photo. My wheel style (photo on this site in newbie check in) was copied with the fake plastic chrome covers and I had to ask several times why. The salesman really couldn't come up with a good reason, although he really tried. It wasn't like there was much of a price difference, if any, that I noticed.

FYI all my trucks have had painted aluminum rims and I did Baja 1000 in my Tundra (not the race, just drove the route) and they still look brand new when pressure washed! Those of you saying the plastic will hold up better, I want what you're smoking...

The ones in the pic are the polished aluminum wheels on my truck. I like those! The chrome steel ones I don't really care for.
