If the 2500, 3500 are included the oil patch will be the reason for all the ram sales.
My area of domain, mining, usually run gm (or chev) for a while but usually switch when they start buying wheel bearings and tie rod ends by the crate (not exaggerating seen it personally) and the horribly overrated Allison trans by the pallet load. Saw this at a mine running about a dozen gasser gm 2500's and 2 or 3 duramax's. After the second pallet load of wheel bearings in ~6 months all of the sudden Rams and Fords started appearing.

Lots of Fords and Gm here where I am in my 'hood. But my close friends are all Ram guys. Most of them converted gm fanboys

This thread is interesting to me as I've counted the truck makes that I've seen while on 7 or 8 hour drives. I do this more to keep boredom at bay than any statistical reason. In southwest Minnesota I see more Rams than any other make. As I get closer to Minneapolis the GM and Ford offerings increase in direct proportion to the proximity to urban areas.

I doubt if Ford, Chevy, Toyota, or Nissan is concerned with however Ram is doing, BUT, I think with the better looks and technology Ram has moved towards, it's getting all of them manufacturers to get back to the drawing boards. When I see the F150 new style headlights, they look so tinsley compared to the new 13 Ram projectors. I drove by a 2013 Black R/T and it looked and sounded so BADASS, I insisted to give him the thumbs up. I knew I made the right decision to stick with my HEMI!

Vehicle manufacturers are always interested in how the competition is doing.

I doubt ford it that worried. They only announced an 8-9 speed tranny but other then that ford will keep its course. The numbers dont lie:
