Default Back to the Cummins World

After a break from diesels and driving a F150 EcoBoost for about a year I am back to Cummins. Getting a 2010 Laramie Crew 4x4, 6.7 auto tomorrow, really nice truck with 85K miles on it.

Truck is all stock but that will change. Not looking for more power, just better MPGs and at least an EGR delete to keep the oil cleaner and EGTs down. I had three 5.9s (wish the 6.7s were as easy to mess with) and have some reading to do and probably will have a question sooner or later.

Good choice, the Cummins is awesome. Best of luck with it. If I recall correctly the 2010 is the last year without the DEF requirement, is that correct?

You are correct, no DEF on the 2010, I think Dodge started using DEF in 2013. Some say it is actually not all that bad.

As you will find the longer you keep the truck stock the faster you will want it deleted.

When my Ram does a regeneration to clean the DPF filter it kills the mileage.

Deletes are very high on my to do list.

Welcome to the club. Always good to see another Cummins guy on the boards. If you have any questions about tuning/deletes feel free to post them up.

I ordered my delete kit a couple days ago. Althoug I wanted to wait a while I figured if anything they get more expensive or harder to get. Might as well get one while I can.

Ordered this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400612809226...84.m1423.l2649

Like I said I am mostly looking for better MPGs and keeping the inside of my engine clean. Once I have it installed I'll have to see how loud it is with only the small OEM muffler. Unlike most of you I do not like loud trucks (to old for that) and may install another muffler to keep things near OEM levels.

Right now my truck gets 19 MPG (not hand calculated), mostly highway.

That is about on the same lines of my read out.

I am with you I do not want my truck loud. I have decided on just doing a delete pipe. I only eliminate the DPF and Nox filters.

What I hate the most is that the oil is pitch black after driving 10 miles on a fresh filter/oil change. I have the complete service history for the truck and the oil was always changed at the dealer.

Once I have the deletes installed I will change the oil a filter twice with the cheapest stuff I can find, drive it a few miles and then put a Mopar filter and Rotella in. Hopefully that flushes most of the soot out of the lubrication system.

I also have to take my truck in for a tie rod recall, at that time I have them check to make sure I have the latest ECM flash before I put the deletes and Smarty programming on my truck.

Default Pictures

OK, here are some pictures right before picking up my truck from the dealer. I will take my own pictures later and post them.

The camper shell is already gone. Was able to sell it for $500.00, that was almost half what I had to pay for the delete kit. Next thing that goes are the ugly mud flaps, they look like they belong on a semi.

My To-Do list:

Get the N59 recall performed
Install delete kit (and change oil twice)
Install RER head unit
Buy and install molded splash guards
Buy some 285/70's (will keep stock rims)

I love to find me a matching EGT gauge like I had for my 07 Ram.

Once I have all the above stuff taken care off my truck should be good to go.
