I am sure there are about 1 million cai questions on this form but I have yet to find the one to answere my question. When looking on ebay I ran across this unit-http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Cool-Air-Intake-Kit-for-94-01- Dodge-Ram-1500-2500-Pickup-V8-5-2L-5-9L-/321104173986?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &fits=Year%3A1998%7CMake%3ADodge%7CModel%3ARam+150 0&hash=item4ac34cdba2&vxp=mtr - which to me looks not so bad. You get a very simmular air horn-intake tube along with a heat shield to help limit the amount of engine heat sucked in. The filter I would not trust I would look into the largest K&N I could fit in it. So my question is, is would it work simmular to the 200+ units or is it a waist of time?

i wouldn't waste money on one of those. they don't really draw any colder air than the stock setup. if anything they draw in warmer air than the stock setup. just get a good quality filter to replace the stock one and you should get the same performance as a real CAI.

I actually saw a huge difference when I installed my cai, especially in throttle response. I think I paid about $100 for my spectre cai, and several people here have been happy with it. There are some additional mods you can do to ensure cold air is flowing to it.

The only thing I didn't like about that set up is that the filter was not oilable, but you mentioned you would swap it. Other than that, it looks very similar to some other higher priced ones.
