I have to agree, BlueJet summed it up very well, better than I could have in fact. IMO, this is a long overdue conversation and the true meaning of this contest has been lost for quite some time. So far, I am seeing a lot of valid points and good suggestions in a healthy discussion. Nice to see a friendly exchange of ideas amongst adults.

I am glad that everyone seems to agree with the topic of this thread and a great discussion is evolving. Now we need to try and come up with ideas of how to make it better.

The picture of yourself instead of a truck. Some members might not be so kean on that but atleast some ideas are being created.

The requirements part of duration and posts is a way to have newer members get to know other members a bit more as well. But as stated it is or has been a popularity contest or a nice truck contest and I think some of the members might forget about that. Now don't get me wrong our past winners are all great forum members and are definately worthy, but there are so many members that do so much for here. We have members sign up and ask if they can nominate themself or how to get their truck nominated and we explain that it is MOTM not Truck of the month.

I think even having this dicussion will help clear things up and make a difference and bring awareness to it

Just to play devil's advocate, look back at all the winners and see who is still active now. Not many.

I've noticed that too.

there's got to be a way to re new the true spirit of the award/process.
maybe start with makin the statement about member vs truck more prominent on the appropriate screens as opposed to just a bullet statement mixed in with the rest of the rules

Very true almost like a curse. The really sad part is that they became inactive almost right after they won. The true MOTM's are still helping make the forum a better place.

I point this out almost every month with my nominations. You can't force people read it. They may see it but some will skim by it not really digest what is being said. I think it is a good system that is in place. Now it is up to us the members to make sure it is run to it's true meaning by nominating the PERSON not the Truck.

For what it's worth, I see this on the other boards I run MOTM on. We will get active newbies, they get nominated, win and then disappear. Usually the ones that lost were ones who deserved to win.

Members just need to choose wisely.

Just post user name and a link to all of their threads. when I first joined and was asked to vote. I just looked at the choices and pick the truck I liked best. most are here for information/problems only and then move on.

yea I feel you. how do we delicately go about that?

a couple times I've wanted to comment under a guys nomination who had 5 posts and say "do you even know who you are nominating"

but then again we can't assume that just becaus they only have 5 posts that they haven't read and read and read the forum and realized how helpful someone is.

it's only noticeable when they too nominate a person who has no posts and is probably the only person they conversed with on the forum. but then again that doesn't matter cuz they'll only get that one nomination and it won't help them.
