The gear ratios in the 545/65rfe suck and they're both the same. The ratios 3.00 1.67 1.50 1.00 .75 .67 are too far appart and rob your engine of hp. The eight speed is much nicer and more fuel efecient with much closer ratios...4.71 3.14 2.10 1.67 1.29 1.00 .84 .67 The eight speed lower gear ratios help improve on your performance as well as towing and stop and go acceleration. Knowing what I know now, I would nevr buy another Dodge with the 5/6 speed unless it was the better 66RFE. There's no comparison between the 65RFE and the eight speed. Those of you who got the eight speed...you are blessed with a good transmission. I favor the 66RFE but I'm not saying it's better. I like the build and the gear ratios better than all of them. No pun intended but those of you who think the 65RFE is just as good as the Eightspeed need to get your head examined, he he...no offense, lol. The 66RFE ratios are 3.23 1.84 1.41 1.00 .82 .63 but it's only available in the HD 2500 and 3500 hemi models....that sux My advise for 2013 is to get the eight speed or nothing at all.

the 68RFE is for heavier vehicles & is better yet
I agree, the ZF 8 speed, also called the Torqueflight 8, beats every transmission since the Torqueflight 727 was in production

I guess those that think the 545rfe/65rfe sucks have never driven a pre 2000's vehicle...

Nothing wrong with the 545rfe/65rfe compared to the previous years, but the 8 speed is better.

I mean it has been said but with the 8 speed you get a lower first gear, easier take off when you are hauling. and more efficient.

The 6 speed is a 6 speed transmission. It has 6 forward gears. Skipping a gear on upshifts doesn't suddenly make it a 5 speed.

My CTS-V, which was a 6 speed manual, when at low rpm and shifting from first to second, would guide it into 4th to save fuel. Computer aided gear selection, CAGS.

You think skipping 3rd in an automatic is bad? Try skipping second and third in a manual!

My Vette skipped gears as well....again, there is nothing wrong with a 6 speed. You cant tow 1 more pound than I can and I think, as mentioned multiple times, the fuel mileage wont be as good as you think it will. 400HP requires X amount of fuel regardless of the type of tranny....

I have driven both. I bought the 8 speed. It really wakes these trucks up. Anyone that doesn't think so .....drive one before deciding. There really is NO comparison.

I agree with you there, but it's lame compared to todays modern transmissions. Non the less I would take a 727 with O/D over one in a heartbeat for racing... better et's and more dependable and I can build one, lol.

As I said earlier....drive an 8 speed. I really don't understand people that don't think improvements can be made in a transmission. The 8 speed gear ratios are simply better for getting a load moving and keeping the engine in the proper rpm range for accelleration. There will come a time when the new 8 speed is replaced by something better, but that time is not now.
