Default Diesel turbo temps and exhaust temp

So i just bought a 2013 Diesel and i have never had one before. I am told that i really should get an exhaust temp monitor and maybe even the device that lets you leave your vehicle running until the turbo cools down. I would think with the technology in the car they would already have this, but i really don't want a big ass screen. What does everyone recommend?

you'll find more info on diesels in this forum http://www.*****************
Depends what your plans are with the truck if you modify it yes 100% agree you'll need to keep an eye egt's exhaust gas temps I don't believe your stock truck can monitor them.
If you plan on staying stock you should be fine.

Unless you have intentions of modifying the truck then it won't really be worth doing because you will rarely, if ever, have be running your EGTs near the point of causing turbo failure. A turbo timer is never a bad idea, but again, not a requirement unless you drive it hard and turn the truck off right away all the time. With the size of the factory turbos you're not running them spooled up all the time so they won't be generating extreme temps.

The EGT might not be a bad idea then if you're doing heavy hauling just to keep an eye on temps, but you'd be wasting your money on the turbo timer.

Unless tuned, the EGT gauge is pretty much just for personal reference. the stock tuning will not let it get hot enough to hurt anything. BUT with the EGT gauge, you can tell if it is in regen. and the computer DOES have EGT sensors (for emissions purposes) but they are quite a ways downstream from the turbo to be useful for protection purposes.
as to the turbo temp monitor, having a water cooled turbo kinda negates the need for one. the water will keep circulating after shutdown to carry heat away from the turbo.as long as you don't run the crap out of it and immediately shut down, you will be fine.
