Apparently it is in a known issue, how well known and how bad I have yet to see anything official. Just forum buzz but as you know people don't come on forums and start post about how wonderful things are they post problems. I have had mine for 1 month and 2400 miles with not one weird light, noise, problem or hiccup. That could change but I hope not.

1 month owned and no real hiccups radio works great, the only thing that has happened is the SD card I bought for music would pause for a millisecond or so and drove me nuts, tried a different one and it works fine.

I never installed the software update that might be why its working fine

Mine has been flawless. I even did the update and no issues. Just the other day I got a text and it asked me if I wanted to reply. I talked the text message and the truck sent it......quite pleased.....Oh and the Nokia Lumia 920 works flawless with this radio!!

I don't believe it for a minute
First of all
Ram trucks have a brand new electronic architecture, called POWERNET, never tried before
the RA1 & RA2 radios are made by CONTI
the RA3 & RA4 radios are made by Harman Kardon, these have the 8.4 screen

The 8.4 radios don't actually control the 2013 Ram, but they do monitor about 40 modules in the 2013 Ram, so that they can send the owner through the radio, a Vehicle Health Report

There has been a few quiches & there may be more, it is after all a whole new system & there will be corrections that need to be done

Just possibly that the update that was sent out was meant for just the RA3, or maybe just for the RA4, then again it may have been for both

Which ever issues that have come up, you can bet that Chrysler, DriveConnect, & Harman Kardon are working on it & it won't cost you anything, all that is required is a bit of patience

If you think otherwise, cancel your 2013 RAM order & next month order a 2014

If you go with Ford, have fun with their SYNC
GM's system, ONSTAR has an issue of its own, the cops can make your vehicle run on 2 cylinders by making a phone call, they say its so they can catch stolen vehicles. I believe That system can be hacked & i don't need MORE BIG BROTHER in my vehicles

You of course will make your own decision, we can only hope that it will be the right one

Good Luck

Default Radio issues are now a Recall

My 2013 1500 CC LRME was kept by the dealer! I get a decent price, go to pick it up and am told there is a "problem" that could take 3-4 weeks.

Manager tells me that it will be days not weeks but, I have no truck.

I am considering walking away after reading this..

Did you see the truck? They didn't tell you what the problem was? Maybe it was damaged in shipment and needs body work? Did they tell you it was the radio?

They built 28,000 plus in April and sold 31,000 plus. So even with all the problems being reported those radios with problems are certainly in the minority.

So what are the actual problem numbers vs. production sold units??? Yep, some people will have problems and if it happened to me (knock on wood) I would be at the dealer seeing what next steps are, including a rental at their expense while my truck was down (if more than a day).

All the talk about walking away from a pending deal - really? You must not want it very bad to begin with. You could find flaws in ANY brand by reading forums - b/c that is where people post problems to find help. The ratio of problems to good posts has to be VERY skewed - like the talk about MANY problems with the radios.

No disrespect intended here. Just saying there are MANY flawless trucks on the road.

My radio works great, I have no complaints with it at all. I suspect a huge majority of people with Ram's aren't having any issues. I wouldn't walk away from a new order just because of a few posts on here, that's crazy.

The only thing that makes me shake my head about Ram is the issue with people getting the wrong rear end. That should never happen. When you order and pay for something, that's what you should get every time. It seems sometimes Ram isn't even sure what rear end is on these trucks as the documentation is different than the part. That is unacceptable, but these issues with the radios will get worked out.
