Default Towed my trailer today...somthing interesting....

I like to tow my trailer at least once a month to keep the flat spots off the tires and to keep the winch battery charges. Trailer is #3300 empty. Tranny temps seem great. Oil temp seems elevated. It was in the high 70's temp wise. Cant wait to see what the oil temp will be when the 105 degree days get here in the desert. Might be looking for an engine oil cooler.....

I just towed our Aliner Expedition TT for the first time with my new truck. Fully loaded for a weekend of camping, it weighs about 2,700 pounds. The temp when we left Phoenix on Friday afternoon, was right about 90 degrees. We towed it up some significant and sustained mountain terrain the temps for oil, tranny & coolant were at worst case, very little above normal driving temps and we also had the AC running.

What's your non-towing normal oil temp? Mine is typically 215. I noticed that your tranny temp is about 15-20 below what mine typically is too. I have yet to pull anything.

I think I'm going to see about an oil cooler anyways, I really like to see oil temp below coolant temp especially when not under severe load...

Curious, what models come with the oil and tranny coolers?

I could have sworn I read where it is standard equipment on at least the SLT with the Bighorn options?

If not, does anyone know what money the option is worth to have added during the build, and under what option does it apply?

I ordered a 2013 Bighorn just last week and the dealer told me I had 2 weeks to make adjustments.

Thanks.

I was sitting here thinking WTF...How the hell does this guy know my mileage??? Is he tapping into my uconnect or something??? Then I realized it was in the photo....DOH..... In Arizona with the heat and my way of remembering, I change the oil every 5K. Easy to remember by looking at the odometer. Last change, the oil life was at 63% so I think i'm well good. I also moved over to synthetic. I wonder if the computer is calibrated for convention or synthetic oil?? Hmm. I'm using the quaker state because it met the ram specs. Mobile 1 don't. Trans Dapt makes a nice kit. I can cut a section out of the plastic insert on my sport (lower bumper there looks like an insert) and mount a cooler right in front of the factory filter and it should look good. I want to tow again with the car loaded and check temps when we get a 100 degree day....

I can only imagine that going from Phoenix to Flagstaff up the 17, would put a strain on the engine when pulling a trailer, especially in August
