Indeed, there is quite a bit of altitude to be gained and with temps typically at or above 110 degrees in June, July & August, it is brutal. I had this in mind and was the main reason I bought my Ram. I had a Jeep Cherokee (Inline 6) and although my TT fell comfortably within the tow capacity, I had to turn the AC off and keep my speed at or below 45mph on the steeper climbs.

My 2012 sport came with a trans and oil cooler standard as part of the sport package or the 26l or whatever it's called

I might have missed it in reading the threads, but do you have the 8 speed or 6 speed tranny? Just curious.

I too, thought most trucks came with an oil and tranny cooler.

In the Ram brochure it just mentions "heavy duty engine cooling" on all 4.7 & 5.7 V8 engines. Couldn't find anything specific about an oil or tranny cooler. My window sticker says "Heavy Duty Engine Cooling" also. The build sheet for my truck lists code NHDP as "Heavy Duty Transmission Oil Cooler." I couldn't find anything at all about an oil cooler.

My sticker says the same, but I cannot find these coolers as the separate units (and they are additional individual units in the Tundra) they usually manifest themselves as. Is this all covered under the "umbrella" of a larger radiator?

I can remember driving an old Hyunda with a 16ft. Canoe strapped to the top, four guys, fishing gear and a cooler full of beer up 17 from Phoenix to Flag. never got over 25mph up those hills. Used to tick people off behind me on the old single lane road.

I have a 6 speed. It is becoming apparent the 6 speed is the trans to have. If the 8 speed boys are stuck with 3.21s, towing will really suck.....but that is for another thread...

Aye. The 8 speed with a few years under its belt will most likely be the "cats meow" when they refine it for truck use, which is almost always more "hell on earth" than what a typical luxury car goes through. According to the wikipedia article I saw someone post the list of cars the maker of this 8 speed has had their unit in is impressive for the upscale factor but all of them, save perhaps the Rolls Royce, are lighter than the lightest Ram truck, probably empty even.

I DID NOT WANT the 8 speed this year (nor the new Pentastar for that matter), nor probably even for 2014, since there are two people in particular that heavily influenced my purchase of the 5.7 & 6 speed combo. I guess the only thing I did "wrong" in hindsight was to add the 4x4 without upgrading to an Outdoorsman since there aren't any skidplates nor towhooks and to add the latter means I have cut the pretty plastic fascia so they can protrude through...not happening for now...

Not really, I have a Hemi with the 8 speed and 3.92 gears. I like it so much more that the 6 speed Ram trucks I test drove.
