Default Is this a warranty issue

Yesterday I notice my rear passenger tire has an 8-10 inch spot where the rubber is literally melted. At first I thought there was gum or something on my tire as the rubber is melted together, but when I pulled at it I realized it was the tire. Even still, a chunk of it came right off with little force.

This doesn't seem right to me. I shouldn't be able to pull chunks of rubber off my tires with 2 fingers, nor should it melt together like that.

I don't do burnouts or anything like that.

Do you think this is a warranty issue?

It may be a tire manufacturer warranty issue as opposed to a dealership warranty issue.

Tires are one of the few vehicle components that the dealership will not warranty, however, they should act as a go between with yourself and the tire company/manufacturer.

I see you have a 13' model so I'm guessing you have we'll less than the 60K or so tire warranty on it.....

I'd pursue it.

YUP, agree with Grub, go see them, this is not normal and could be quite dangerous out there at highway speeds if its part of something you cannot see in the tire.

Oh yeah, definitely pursue it.

Also, thanks for posting this as it may help others out.....or at the least make them inspect their tires for a possible common tire defect.

Points to you.

What tires do you have so we can look for the same problem and is it on the outside or inside of the tire.

part of the problem right there, goodyears SUCK. They not named good-for-a-year for nothing.

I absolutely refused them if I was going to buy a truck from the dealer and they are giving my BFG AT KOs instead. I told them to keep the 20" wheels and tires, buy my a set of 17" BFG AT KOs and I will bring in my own 17" wheels. They said, ok we'll do it.

That said, even goodyears shouldn't do that , so I would be on them to get a new one

Goodyear have a lot of quality tires in their product list. Yeah, the OEM Goodyear's on our trucks aren't the pick of the litter, but they have many top of the food chain tires that people rave about. I've owned probably one-half dozen of Goodyear's different model tires over the years and have been very happy to extremely happy with all of them.

Default New tires usually require registering

Look through your owners manual materials. There is usually a card or something for registering your new tires with a good year tire shop.
If the dealership doesn't directly support a replacement tire, a goodyear shop can warranty replace the tire.

This is where photos are very useful.

Don't drive your new truck with a defective tire.

Take the truck to the service manager. It's in their best interest as well to deal with the occasional crappy tire.
