Default Woohoo!! Scored an aFe stage 2 magnumForce intake system

Been watching for a good deal on an intake system and I think I just got a great one on an aFe stage 2 with PRO 5R filter and prefilter. Very few miles on it and looks brand new. It wasn't really in the budget right now but I can't pass up the deal. If I get it on and am not just in love with it, I'll pass the deal on to someone else. Probably be a week or so but I'll post pics and opinion when I get it. In the meantime, this is the one. I really like the tapering intake tube. Reminds me a little of the BFI.

I have a different style aFe stage 2 also. I like it. Really just sounds good. If you don't like loud then don't go WOT! Sounds like a jet. haha

No reports of "MPG or HP" gain. Maybe some throttle sensitivity at first (expected) or maybe just in my head.

Make sure when you buy or get the cleaning kit..that it's the right one with the right part numbers for your filter. They send me the wrong oil for my oiled one and it effed it up so I bought a dry filter. Went mudding and it got a little dirty and cant get it perfectly clean. Now my truck sounds like I have a turbo because it whistles

aFe claims a peak 15hp/23tq boost but I'm not really expecting to be able to feel the difference. To be honest, I've really been looking at intakes for the sound factor. This is going to sound stupid but....my truck makes this exhaust leak type sound that starts under even very mild acceleration. Anything more than babying around and I can hear it. It's tolerable during the winter because I can't hear it but during nice weather with the windows down it's very noticeable and bounces off of other vehicles and buildings. I have had it to two different exhaust guys that have told me there is nothing wrong with it and it is normal. Some have suggested it is the "Hemi tick". I don't think so but I can't seem to find the problem. My best guess would be that it's a very slight exhaust leak, most likely at the manifolds. Neither my mechanics nor myself have been able to find any loose bolts or studs but I still think this is where it's coming from.

I know masking an issue is not the best approach but I'm hoping the intake sound will help drown out the undesirable noise. Does your intake make noise at normal throttle?

Can't tell at normal throttle IMO.

Hey here a possible cause to your "tick" I had the same issue, only under mild acceleration.

EGR valve. They get gummed up with carbon deposit and what not and start to clatter. at WOT the EGR is always open so you can't hear it. At idle and low throttle it doesn't move enough to clatter.

$40 part, 4 bolts, 15 minute swap

Dude if I could fix the tick I would be so thrilled. It's the only thing I don't like about my truck. I can't seem to replicate it at idle even by revving. It may be doing it and the engine and exhaust are drowning it out while sitting still. I just know I can't hear it. I hear it when I'm driving and I step into the throttle the slightest bit. It seems to be more related to throttle position than RPM, speed, etc. That combined with the rather notorious exhaust bolt issues are what make me think it could be a slight exhaust leak. I would love to do headers but we are trying to sell a house to build another within the next year so the funds aren't there right now. I have also thought about having someone pull the manifolds and install new gaskets and bolts but it's almost a guarantee that some of them are going to break off so that could still get expensive.

So where is the EGR located? It sounds like it might be worth a shot. Never hurts to have new parts even if it doesn't fix the sound.

you are describing exactly what I experienced. It's throttle position, not RPM where the noise happens.

It's really easy to get to. I just had to take my air box off. It's kind of near the alternator but down a little. he says to "disconnect the battery for safety reasons" well ya..but it's really so your computer can re learn the new EGR. So before you start, disconnect negative terminal, do swap. Snug everything bag up, re connect and you'll be good to go

Reps for the info and vid link man. It's in stock locally so I may very well try this tomorrow. If it fixes it we are going to have to meet up so I can buy you a beer, lol.

Was yours pretty loud? I can easily hear mine over my 14" Maggie. Also, I have been getting an intermittent CEL with a code for one of the downstream O2 sensors. Any chance these issues could be related?

Not sure if they are related. I know there is a code specifically for EGR valve failing completely. So, i would say un-related...but I'm just guessing.

Ya I could hear mine over my flowmaster 40s. Pretty noticeable and was really annoying

I noticed it after my put my CAI on and removed the "hemi hat" or that plastic engine cover. I googled the noise and other forum responses said the plastic served to muffle the sound of the EGR..so I thought I just had to deal with it. But after talkin to other 3rd gen guys who also had after market CAIs they said theirs didn't do that. So I researched more and just decided to replace it. And it's all better now.
