Default 01 2wd 1500 rear drum brakes clunking?

Not sure if this is the right spot to post this so I apologize ahead of time if I'm out of line.

It's been a long time since I've messed with drum brakes but the other day I hear a clunk when turning into work. Then I started hearing it more and more frequently. The other night in the garage I grabbed the bed and shook the truck side to side and I could put my hand on the left rear drum and feel it moving and clunking. That doesn't seem normal to me. Could it just mean that they need adjusting or am I looking at a messed up axle?

I'm probably going to pull the wheel and drum off tonight just trying to get an idea of what I could be getting into.

Wow. Either this forum is dead or no one wants to advise a newb.

I pulled the wheel off last night and it just seems like the axle movement in-out is allowing the drum to bang against the backing plate.

Apologies for the lack of responses. Probably a couple of reasons which are unfortunate...but just the nature of the forum.

I spend A LOT of time on here and 80% of the talk 4th gen and 3rd gen ram talk, just the most common truck people have on here. There definitely are 2nd gen guys on here, but not as many. And seeing as how 3rd and 4th gen rams don't have rear drum brakes, people might not know as much about them.

There is majority modding talk on here too and more likely to be looked at and commented on than problems/fixes. I'm generalizing here, but there are a select few that really know these trucks and get on and help out with technical questions.

With that said, just give it a few more days. Bump it to the top every once in awhile. I'll try and track down some of the technical guys I know on here and refer them to your post.

I appreciate the response. I adjusted the brakes a little and the problem seems to have gone away for now.
