Default MPG Differences - Your input requested

Hi. I'm looking at a 2013 Bighorn Crew Cab w/the V6 (for better mpg).

I have my choice between the 2x and the 4x (same options/packages). I'm unsure that I'll need 4wd - but I live on the FL panhandle coastline and do plan on getting back into the woods trail riding. It's not unheard of to run into some soft sand in the woods so 4x may come in handy.

So my question is - MPG between the two. Is there much difference? ~that you're aware of.

I've been reading 21ish on average - but what about the CrewCab specifically. Any idea what they are getting?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

I live in WI, so a truck isn't a truck without 4x4. With that said, you will probably lose more than what it states officially. The 2WD is rated at 25 and 4WD is 23. I started averaging around 18. I am now up to 19 - 19.5. I think it will hover around 20. Since I have the 3.55 rear end, more aggressive tires, crew cab. I probably lost a 2 - 3 mpg because of those options.

Personally if I were you, I would go 2WD for price and mpg and get the LSD rear end option. Not as good as 4WD but for a little off roading, it would help, maybe throw some weight in back before going off road, for more traction. Then add some more aggressive tires if needed.

If you're going to go off road, get the 4X4, you won't lose much in the way of MPG when driving around in RWD

Save some money and don't get the 4X4 unless you actually need it.
I live in snow country and need it. If I lived down south I would have a 2x4. Also 2x4 less tire cost, maintenance, fuel, and better trade in. JMHO

Does not sound like much of a decision, you seem to indicate you plan on using your truck where 4x4 will be needed. So you should choose 4x4 regardless of MPG. Having said that, the loss in MPG is not that significant.
