Default Transmission Shifting problem

I just picked up this 1998 1500 5.2. Engine runs great, and the body is completely redone and ready to paint, problem is the transmission.

I noticed it was not shifting correctly, I was advised to change out the fluid and filter. I replaced both and used a high end synthetic made for Dodge. This however didn't fix my problem. It seems like I can trick it into shifting into 2nd by tapping off the gas, but it doesn't seem to be able to get to the OD, or high gear. The only odd sound i'm hearing to when I keep trying to get that last gear to kick in, it's soft whine, doesn't do it all the time.

Any help would be great, I like to go to the garage armed with some info.

after about 3 hours, we took it to the store down the street, and it drove perfectly, shifted all gears.

Mine was doing the same thing.

But at when my engine was acting up I had the transmission dropped and the engine pulled.

Now I have a now engine in and started to tear down the transmission.

Right when I took off the pan, they had a snap ring in the pan.

Looked a bit further in the tear down, the overdrive was toast ( thats the tail section of the trans ).

So now Im waiting for the parts to come in for the rebuild.....
