Ok so I tried a wire going off of the coil connection, nothing happened (did I check correctly?) Also the boot looked clean, I also tried putting a wire into the plug boot off of the coil that goes into the dist. cap, nothing. However the plug wire looked clean. Should I take my coil to autozone and have them test it??

Autozone claims they cant test it... Shouldn't I be able to just hook it up to a volt meter and do an ohm test on it?

Test to make sure you have power going into it with the key on.

If you have power going in and nothing coming out...

I tested it with a multimeter. The low resistance ohms were a high, supposed to be between 0.97-1.18 ohms, it was at 3.xx. Bought a new one, put it in, started third try, ran rough for a second, then idled just fine. I'm thinking this is because I tried starting it earlier it had no spark, and it just had to clear up the extra fuel. Does that sound right?

Maybe some extra fuel especially from the starting fluid etc, and the earlier trying.

How much was the new coil? I was thinking around $16.

Ha... $38.84 with tax, and a limited lifetime warranty.

Well.. My check engine light came on today, tried the self check method, nothing came up. Took it in to O' Reily's (close by) plugged it in, nothing came up, tried replugging it in, still nothing. The light then went out. The guy went inside, jumped back in my truck tried to start, turns over, nothing. Tried again, started right up, check engine light came back on. Also while we were sitting in front of O' Reily's my fuel light came on, (gauge was reading a little over half when we pulled in, but I did park on an incline in front of the store.) Is my sending unit going out????

Low fuel pressure or a failing pump could add to your complications.
