Default 05 motor swap

I got a 05 ram 1500 4x4 with the 4.7 with almost 179000. Wanna build a new motor and was wondering if I can put a newer 4.7 in it or if I should just buy a motor from the junkyard and start building? Any advice is appreciated

Someone who knows a bit more about 4.7's will chime in I'm sure, but with a newer engine you might have to worry about computer compatibility. The 08+ 4.7's are quite a bit different. You might be able to rebuild your short block and go with newer heads and intake manifold if you're looking for more power.

^yes, even though they are basically cosmetically and dimensionally the same, the newer(08+) 4.7 is very different. You would be looking at probably swapping the complete pcm and harness, all sensors, etc. along with the engine.

Just my two cents, I just did a swap on my 03. I search high and low for a used engine. Almost bought a entire used truck for the parts, but every test my mechanic used. Made my search come up short. The best used engine I could get was 1800 with less then. 100,000. My enigine went out at 106,000. So It didn't make sense to me to pull the trigger. Finally found this place http://accurateengines.com/remanufac...dge/47-engine/. To be honest, I was ready to give up and move to the other side. My mechanic went back and forth checking with the company. He convinced me to go ahead a purchase this remanfactured for 1900 This still may be my last ram, but I must admit it runs like a beast! Added a better oil pump and a torque converter, it will be my sons in a couple of years. Never again will I go down this road. I thinks it worth looking into. Talking to my mechanic and Tom from accurate engines they knew everything that is wrong with the engine, I just wanted the truck to run. That It does!

It's almost plug and play. You will need a tune, you only really need to run one spark plug, may need to redo the factory Y pipe, and an 08 intake adapter plates, which I have some for sale.

Stampede.
