Default park view in laramie vs. big horn

so every since my work talked me into getting a car over a year ago i've been kicking myself because I miss having a truck.

Been eying a Laramie 4x4 for a while, but due to cost and negative equity in my car thinking of going to a big horn and saving 10k....

my question is I really like in the Laramie that the rear view camera displays on the screen, but it appears that on the big horn and every other model besides the Laramie the rear view or "park assist" camera only displays in the mirror?

is that correct? if you want the display on the screen you can only do it with a Laramie no other ram model?

I believe as long as you have the 8.4 it should be okay. Just make sure it comes with the truck and isn't added after the fact. So far when it's added after I believe it can only come through the mirror

As long as you have the 8.4, the rear view camera is an available option that you can add. It's not limited only to the Laramie

ok, i got confused because when i build the options and go to add "park view" it says it's adding a auto-dimming mirror with display.

so besides a few cosmetic things (leather, grill look, headlights look) anything major i'm missing going from the Laramie to the Big Horn?

As mentioned earlier as long as you order the 8.4a or 8.4an the camera will show up on the touch screen. I have the Big Horn and LOVE it.

All your getting with the Laramie is just more bells and whistles:

- Heated Front Seats
- Pwr 10-Way Driver Seat w/Memory & Pwr 6-Way Pass
- Leather Seats
- Power Adjustable Pedals with Memory
- Heated Steering Wheel
- Memory for Radio, Driver's Seat, Mirrors and Pedals
- Air Conditioning ATC with Dual Zone Control
- 506-Watt Alpine® Surround w/9 Spkrs & Subwoofer

There is probably more and you could probably upgrade your Big Horn to get some of these features as well.

Like IluvaMyTrucka said, you can get almost everything on a Laramie in the Big Horn. The only options my Big Horn is missing is the leather, 10 way seats, air-ride, sunroof, and the small exterior differences. To me those options we're worth the extra 5k. I just wouldn't get my money's worth out of them.

As for the camera, one of the first trucks I looked at had the camera in the mirror and I didn't like it. I was told it was an dealer add on, not from the factory. So I imagine that is probably the case with the truck you're looking at. I believe if the 8.4a doesn't come factory with a back up cam than most dealers bypass having to update the software by installing a seperate camera system in the mirror.

Check the build sheet to make sure it came with a camera from the factory.

Hope this helps a little, good luck. You can't go wrong with either choice!

p.s. the in 8.4a back up cam will adjust the lines to your the angle of your steering wheel where the mirror cam will not...that's basically what sold me on the in dash one haha

I think the Laramie also has ventilated front seats. Plus, a few of things Iluvamytruck mentioned can be ordered/found on the big horn too (heated steering, seats, premium sound). Also, to confirm above, if you have the 8.4 system you can add the rear view cam and park sense - it's on mine.

RWB, I went through the same balancing and ultimately went with the SLT Big Horn and saved about 10k. It's got the auto 4WD and a lot of nice features. I had the feeling the Laramies sold better and definitely saw that the dealers were willing to give more of a break on the Big Horn. Plus my wife did not like the dual tone and I didn't have the patience to order and wait for one in monotone. While I initially had a bit of buyer's remorse about passing on the Laramie, the combination of the money saved and the aftermarket modifications and add ons available has pretty much taken care of that. The only thing I miss or wish I had is the auto dual climate control but that's more of a personal hang up - I'm hoping it will be something that could be added in the coming years after market.

The big difference in the Laramie and the Bighorn is the LED/Projector headligh/tailight package, leather, wheel package, and the convenience group. The convenience group is different than the luxury group that you can get in the Bighorn/Outdoorsman. Only the Sport/Laramie/Longhorns can get the convenience group. You can get the 8.4a/an radio in the Bighorn package and that will have the screen on the radio and not the mirror. Thus far, anything aftermarket will be on the mirror. The convenience group is THE reason I bit the bullet went for the Laramie. If the Outdoorsman could have had the convenience group I probably would have gotten it. Although I like the look of the headlights too.

The LED/projector headlight/taillight combination is the only thing I really wanted to get in my Big Horn. Maybe it'll be something I can swap out later on down the road.

I like the leather seat option, too. But, I plan on getting Kaztkin's installed.
