Default Light Duty Towing Report: Pentastar

Loaded up a 12 ft dual axle trailer with about 1200 lbs today and towed up and down hills, in town and on hwy. Got 13 MPG. I wonder if the hemi would have gotten better... Performance was just fine.

How much did the trailer weigh?

I have a 4.7 quad cab with 3.55's and towing about 4,000 lb to north carolina and back I averaged just over 12mpg, at about 70mph the whole trip.

That isn't to bad at all for a V6. One thing you will have over the Hemi is unloaded MPG's. I guess you don't tow all the time so that is where you will always have the advantage!

I regularly tow about 4,000 lbs. through mixed terrain. I have the Hemi and I average between 13 and 14 mpg if I keep it under 70.

I have the 3.55; don't think I would want to pull much with the 3.21 judging from today. That is, if hills are involved.

Don't know what the trailer weighs, it is a 12" utility with double axles.

Yeah, I suspected a hemi would have done just as good or IMO better due to the hills. But I didn't purchase this truck to tow and have an older 3/4 ton for that. But for a 4-wheeler, riding lawnmower, small trailer, I think it will do OK.
