Default Cost to program a new keyless remote for third gen??

I have lost my one and only original key and keyless remote. I still have a duplicate key that works just fine but unless the remote turns up I will need a new one. I understand that the dealer has to program it when you don't have at least one fob to go by. Anyone know how much this generally runs? Also, are all remotes for a specific model year the same? I have seen mentioned that different packages may require different remotes. Thanks!

Not sure my truck only came with one as I bought it used but went on ebay and was able to get a refurbished FOB and had it cut and did the programming myself. Unfortunately you didn't do that and not sure what the dealer would charge you. I wouldn't buy the key and FOB from dealer I would search ebay. Here is the link to my thread

Key/KEY FOB

I believe it is about $50. I see that Ace Hardware stores now make duplicate keys. If you lost your key fob too, you better take out a loan to buy a replacement.

Yeah i think you need two working transponder keys to duplicate additional sets yourself in which will also program the remote/fob(s).

I thought I had updated this thread but apparently not. Thanks for bringing it back up.

I ended up buying a new aftermarket remote off of Ebay for about $20. The local dealer did quote me around $50 to program a new remote but I went to a local locksmith and he did it for $35. Took him all of 20 seconds. All you have to do is plug in to the OBD port with a Scantron or similar to be able to put the truck into program mode. The remote works great with one minor complaint. It looks and functions exactly like an OEM remote except that the buttons are raised instead of recessed or flush fitting like on the OEM piece. I have accidentally hit the panic button a couple of times because of this. No biggie.

So for $55, problem solved.

Co worker has had that issue with his Canyon Key FOB he has trimmed it and all sorts of things have to find out what he finally did to stop it as he has hit the Panic a few times as well.

I've just kinda learned to be more aware of it. Haven't hit it since then.
