Default Radio help needed!

Hello, I have a 2004,1500, QC with a stock navigational head unit, bought the truck used and never had the cd for the unit. When playing the fm at times the volume will go from normal listening to full blast. I have noticed that the knob volume control sometimes will only work if jiggled( thought maybe dirt or dust is on the switch) and most of the time having to use the steering controls to adjust volume. Could a factory amp be the problem? It has the Infinity sound system. Thanks for any help.
