The steel rims are super heavy, find some alluminum rims.

Question for us open diff guys. Is it even worth bothering with slicks or DR's? I'm afraid of the one wheel peel and destroying my differential trying to warm the slicks up with a burnout.

It's never been an issue for me, 3.55's open rear diff going into race season #4 with well over 300 passes so far.
Right after rolling through the water box I simply floor the go pedal without any use of my brakes to hold it in place.
(ESP traction control off)

Just a 1-2 second burn while slowly rolling forward always puts me sideways so I know both rear wheels are spinning,
I also have both rear fenders full of melted rubber spray after a run.

as soon as I let off the gas a little after a short burn and the spin stops I burp the throttle once more for a quick chirp that assures me I'm good to roll as I pull up to the tree.
If I'm not 100% sure it will stick in 2WD, I put the transfer case in 4-Auto (AWD) and use all 4 DR's to get out of the hole at 1.8' 60 foot times

Of course having a high stall TC makes it much easier to light both rear tires up at will... even with my heavy-ass 305/50R20 Terra Grappler's on clean dry pavement I can rip a pair of blackies for over 25' with ease.

Yeah bud, I know all about your ride, very cool. I have paid close attention to your posts. I am more or less asking for us 2wd guys with no stall convertor. If you were just a little bit closer I'd have to take a ride in your truck. That thing is a slingshot out of the hole for a 5,000lb. truck!

I guess my point is a ram with a few mods can easily bake big heavy tires on dry pavement...with an open diff,

surely a bone stock ram could do the same on smaller lighter tires with no tread standing in a puddle of water???

Drag radials and slicks spin extremely easy on wet pavement.
I doubt you could peg leg if you tried.

Compressor man,
I don't know why I even said steel. I have a line on a set of used 17 inch ram wheels I will hopefully pick up on tomorrow.

Thanks for your input. We shall see! I plan on a lightweight al. wheel 17x10 with at least an 11' wide slick, maybe 12'. Probably go 28" diameter. I really want a stall convertor after seeing what yours did for you. I am amazed the tranny has held up to that kind of abuse.
