Default 2013 nav vs 2011 garmin nav

I have the garmin nav in my 2011 and its what I'm used to. I also have a hand held garmin for work and both are 99% accurate and always show faster routes than my phones navigation. I do not know what kind of nav the 8.4an has but I know its not garmin. I plan on taking my truck from Far East va to Tn soon after getting my truck (hopefully it comes in time) and I am wondering how good the nav is. Was thinking about taking my hand held garmin just to compare routes because my phone nav adds over 30 mins to the drive vs my garmin.

Anyone use it for long trips? We're you pleased with it?

i have read 2 separate thoughts on the 2013 Nav
one reads that it is a GARMIN & the other reads that it is something special from Harman Kardon

I believe that all the actual maps are from Navteq & Garmin buys those maps & tweak them to work much better

Interesting. I watched a YouTube video and the navigation did not look like the garmin maps. Maybe it's different between the 8.4a and an?

The AN adds 3-D map views & some other nice do dads
like Sirius Traffic & voice control
I know the AN (& possibly the A models), allow you to add VIA stops along the mapped routes, that is a real nice feature
I sure would like to have that feature when i drive across country

like mapping from San Diego to Barnetts Harley Davidson El Paso Tx, then Fat Jacks Sports Bar Texarkana Arkansas, then Jack Daniels Brewery Lynchburg, TN, then Orange County Choppers Newburgh, NY, then my Sisters home in Sandy Hook Connecticut

you can map all that out before leaving your driveway, using Via Points

That is nice. My Garmins only allow one via point and I always wished I could add more.

I have taken several trips in my truck with the 8.4AN nav.
I really like it! It has been dead-on every single time. And for the immediate turns to show up in the EVIC is pure genius and extremely useful.

Good to hear. Makes me feel better about my 7.5 hour trip in a couple months.

Unhappy

One of the things I liked on my 2011 Garmin nav was it displayed the elevation. My 2013 8.4an doesn't BUMMER!

Really? That does kinda suck since I'm going up in the mountains and its interesting to know my elevation. Oh well, I don't use that unless I'm in the mountains which isn't very often.

I used mine on a 3 day trip from Ontario up through northern Ontario, Manitoba and saskatchewan and she worked mike a charm! Not a single bone to pick.

On another note I thought it was Garmin based.
