Default Backup camera help

I recently added a Kenwood head unit and am looking to add a backup camera. I would like to use the Mopar tailgate handle with the built in camera because I think that would look cleanest and give the best angle. However, I am not sure what types of plugs Kenwood and Mopar use. The Kenwood has a Yellow rca plug designated for the backup camera video in. I have not been able to get a good look at the Mopar plug that goes into the head unit. Does anyone know if I would be able to use the Mopar tailgate handle with the Kenwood wiring harness? I did some searches here but did not find anything about this issue.

Thank you,
Brian

Subscribed!!

I'm definitely interested in this as well. Just installed my own Kenwood deck and thought about adding a back up camera to it but definitely want the OEM one for the tailgate. Hopefully that hooks up no problem.

If anyone has links to the OEM camera kit and harness that would be appreciated as well.

I just bought a flush mount 170 degree backup camera for $35 and drilled a hole in the tailgate Handel where the oem camera would go. Camera works great picture is good, it likes like factory but was much much cheaper

Yes, I saw this. The instructions on Mopar Online Part's website aren't very good though, the pictures are all blurry. Do you know how it plugs in to the deck itself? And if you have an aftermarket deck to you still need the sales code added?

I like this idea! Do you have a link to the one you bought? And how as the install? Do you just have to run power to it and the video wire to the back of the deck?

Thank you for the replies.

The problem I am having is that I had the RES (no screen) so I have no idea which connector the Mopar wiring harness uses. I can easily get the Mopar kit...but will that be able to connect to a Kenwood head unit that has the yellow rca jack designated for the backup camera?

Kenwood also has a kit, but that does not look like it would be easy to add to the tailgate handle. I am essentially asking if anyone knows of a way to take the Mopar tailgate handle with camera, and use the Kenwood wiring harness to connect to the HU...or the the Mopar harness is compatible with the Kenwood.

Just checked, the Mopar wiring harness plug that goes into the HU definitely looks different...

You can wire it many ways. I ran the video rca cable and the ground/power wire to the front of the truck and connected to wiring harness. Also since I have a PAC harness I hooked the reverse wire from my deck(pink) and hooked it to the reverse wire on the PAC harness(green)

This way the camera will automatically appear on the screen when I'm in reverse. Also with my deck I can turn the reverse camera on whenever that is gy I also ran it to a source tht is always putting out power

Nice, that sounds like exactly what I need. Do you happen to have a link to the camera you bought? Or even that brand?
