Default Going from 3.55 to 3.92 gears

I'm kind of disappointed I didn't go with the 3.92 gears. Can anyone tell me what it would cost to have the dealer update my 2013 Sport to 3.92 gears? Would there be any issues with moving to the 3.92 gears?

Thanks,

RJ

Do you have a 4wd or 2wd?

If you have a 2wd the swap will be fairly simple. All that needs to be changed is the ring and pinion in the rear diff. If you have a 4wd it's a different story. You can't change the gears in the front diffs from '12 and up. So you will need to get a front diff from a 09-11 and then change the gears in that. It ends up being a fairly expensive mod. You're looking at a couple grand for sure.

If you only have 2 wheel drive & not a 4X4, it is not that big of a thing
IT IS ONLY MONEY

It was much easier to do in vehicles before the 2011 Rams when the ZF rear end started being built. The older differentials were made by AAM

May i ask why you want to go from the 3.55 to the 3.92
Do you Drag Race or pull a Trailer over 4,000 pounds ?

If you drag race, you will also NEED the LSD, (limited slip differential), for 2 wheel traction
In the Northern States, LSD sure comes in handy in the winter months

You can have LSD in any drive ratio, 3.21, 3.55, or 3.92
It was an Option with all of them in 2013

My 2013 has 4x4.

Definitly do not race, those years are past me.

I will be towing a 12' enclosed snowmobile trailer in the winter months with two sleds and gear in the truck. In the summer months I usually have 2 kayaks on the top and gear. I'm also going to be purchasing 10 ply tires and I'm a bit concerned with the 3.55 (Brandon thanks for responding to my post on the tires).

Do I have to be concerned, or would I just be wasting money?

If the dealership did the work, would it still be covered under the manufactures warranty?

Honestly, unless you're going with larger tires like 35's or 37's I wouldn't bother with the gear swap. Especially only going to a 3.92. It's going to be too high of a cost for the gains you'll see.

As I mentioned in your other post about the tires. Since you are sticking with a relatively stock size (a tad smaller actually) you shouldn't see too much of a difference. Your 12' trailer and sleds probably doesn't weigh anymore than 3000 pounds (I'm completely guessing). You'll be able to handle that no problem. I recently pulled 4500 pounds with 35's and 3.55 gears with my 4.7 and it handled it fine.

Total wast of money!

You would be better off trading in the truck cost wise. Also to much of mixing parts from year to year. You would not see much change in performance.

Ok I am confused a bit if the 2012 and the 2013 Have ZF and 3.92 are available from dealer then why could you not swap 2013 to 2013 ? I saw the post from Fast when they did his differential swap and the ring and pinion came out with no issues....I would say that the swap is not a big deal just dealer parts only no after market

I strikes me as odd that it can be so expensive to change them after the fact when it was only a $50 option on my '12 from the factory. Now I'd glad I paid the extra $50.
