I was in the same boat, so ended up using Stainless Exhaust Band Clamps
http://www.ramforumz.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=114, over a year later still seem to be holding up well. Originally I was going to use the magnaflow Y-pipe, but since could not find a shop to welded in, I got frustrated and went all out - got two 5' length of 2.5" stainless pipe and dual in/ dual out stainless magnaflow muffler with internal X. So in my opinion it ended up better off at least for now. All that still cost less than exhaust shop was asking to weld in the Y-pipe, and doing it yourself - priceless.

I think the reason why they seem to hold up well is that the band clams don't support anything, they are there to just seal the connections. I don't have any butt type, they are all lap-joint type as each exhaust pipe fits inside the other. Don't even try to use cheap pipe expander, i broke two, then ended up getting Lisle exhaust pipe expander, they are high quality made in the USA ones.

muffler shop guys are not experts on the type of muffler that would be right on any application..they can build beautiful exhaust systems sometimes but I've learned that they don't know squat unless they only deal with one specific vehicle...they can take your ideas and do whatever you want...but for someone to tell you if a Y pipe wouldn't work on our trucks obviously doesn't know our trucks...

Yeah I recommend just taking the y-pipe with you to a few exhaust shops and have them quote you after they see the simplicity of the install. Good Luck!

to save a bunch of typing, I'll just quote myself ...from 2 years ago

My 4x4 was done at a quality shop that knew as soon as I asked for a Y-pipe install,
that I would also want mandrel bent stainless steel pipe sections to replace the squash bent sections they remove for a smoother flow.

Stock crush bent y-pipe:

New Magnaflow Y $27

The cheap crushed bent aluminum bargain exhaust shop crap would defeat the purpose of doing a performance Y install (IMHO).
Why? because a single crushed 90º bend can decrease flow by almost 20% , add up a number of bends and you just wasted your money.

Here's mine installed with 2 large smooth transition Mandrel Bent Stainless Steel sections (only $15 ea)

So about $60 in parts, and no more than $90 in labor to get it done right.

Had mine done at a shop that specializes in performance exhaust
...not Midas or Speedy, sometimes to get quality work done with good parts you have to pay a premium,
labor could easily reach $150 alone for 3 good cuts and 3 good welds done right.

I paid $200 to have my Corsa Catback installed AND my magnalfow y pipe welded in. Two guys worked on it and it was done in about 1 hr. 15 min.
