Default Diablo vs. Bully Dog for 2013?

I know the Diablo isn't out yet, but I'm just curious as to everyone's opinions on the tuners.

If I mod, it'll probably only be a CAI or Vararam, true dual exhaust, and maybe a 87mm TB. I already have 35" MTs and am looking to get some of the pep back in it and improve the gas mileage (I know, it's a truck...).

Also, where is the best place to buy the tuners? Direct from manufacturer or is there a private vendor that does decent on the pricing? Also, anyone know if anyone does military discount?

THANKS EVERYONE!!

A lot of members on the site say that the bully dog has better canned tunes meaning what it comes with is better than diablo. I have the same mods as what your looking to get and I have a trinity t-1000 that will be here next week. The trinity can be custom programmed but not the bully dog so if I'm going to spend some cash I will spend a bit more and be able to have it custom done for my truck.

I bought mine from the guys from Discount Auto here on the site, great guys to talk with and they are always here to answer questions. They sell them for the same or better than anywhere else. I have bought everytning I have put on my truck from them and they have always treated me good. Plus it's kinda like buy local here on the site and they help pay to keep the site going

By custom programed, do you mean I can't reprogram it to accomadate the CAI or other mods? That doesn't make sense...

Someone should make an auto-tuner for these things. I have on on my Harley and love it! Do a mod, the bike learns the mod, and adjusts the settings accordingly.

What the diablo will allow you to do is modify the perimeters of the engine to suite your needs, lets say you want to install a super charger, well bully dog will not help you, but the diablo you can tune you ECU to best fit the engine now equipped with this Supercharger. Also, the Diablo you can buy tunes from other vendors or people that have spent time reconfiguring it for optimal performance out of specific engines or setups. Bully Dog does not allow this, but it does many of the functions you can find with other tuners, Most tuners allow you to turn off MDS or Traction Control, or setup larger tires with the speedometer or tire pressure, turn off seat belt chimes, read and reset codes. Yes, you will find articles or post saying that for the 2011 - 2012 and {well 2013 only) that the Bully Dog has better Stock tunes than other tuners. This may not apply to other years where Diablo or superchips have better ones than Bully Dog. At the end of the day you decide. Right now if you don't think of needing custom tuning for your truck and will only use a CAI and Change your Exhaust, any tuner will work, well for the 2013 only Bully Dog right now, but eventually Diablo will release a stock tune also, Another thing to think about is the size of the unit, Bully Dog is small and easy to pocket, Diablo is a bit bigger. Both can be used to program your ECU and then remove from the truck, both also give you engine information etc. So at the end of the day its your choice. If you want some tuning now, BD, if you want to wait for custom tuning you will need to wait. I myself have the Bully Dog and have also CAI, TB and Exhaust, and Like my BD very much. Great product with great support. Some of my buddy's have Diablo with Hemifever Tune. Nice product also.

not really a comparison until Diablosport releases theirs. Bullydog jumped early to either let the masses do their beta testing for them or simply just trying to get some of sales market, take your pick. For the same money...you have the options of getting dyno tunes, email tunes, supercharger tunes, canned tunes. Is it really a comparison??

If you are going to spend a lot of money of aftermarket parts I would want a tuner that could be custom tuned to get the most out of my mods and the money I spent on them.

BullyDog is a great company the only thing with the HEMI GT tuner is the whole canned thing. You are basically getting the same tune as everyone else from the guy with zero mods to you with all your mods. There is no way that both engines need the same tune to get the most out of them.

when i hear something like this it makes me think twice about choosing one. bully dog or diablo the real choice is what do you want to do with your truck.

I think you may be confused. I know with Harleys, a "canned tune" means it's a tune from the aftermarket tuner that coresponds with the mods you have done. If you have a CAI and say a cam, they'll send you one that's as close to those mods as possible. Not everyone has the same tune regardless of the mods. That would make the engine run really poorly.

A comparison would be like
VanceHines Fuelpak is comparable to a BullyDog tuner. Though V&H has a couple hundred of tunes to choose from, a guy from Colorado will get the same tunes I have in Maryland if we fill in the questionnaire of mods installed.
The PowerCommander will be like a Diablosport. They can be dynotuned along with the "preloaded canned tunes.
Its not a custom tune unless you send them your last datalog run or simply strap the bike down on a dyno. I don't know how much the computors have changed on the Harleys lately, my newest bike is a 10' Roadglide. Back in 10' the best thing out there are the autotuners, does that still apply?
