Default New guy / tire-wheel question ..

Hey everybody, just want to start by saying I'm brand new here but have been viewing for a little bit for information here and there and it's a great place.

I know this has probably been beaten to death but I have yet another tire / wheel question. I've tried searching but can't really find what I'm looking for so I'm hoping some of you guys may have some easy answers for me.

I have a 2012 Ram Sport 1500 with the stock 20" wheels now with 275/60-20 for tires. I'm looking to get new tires and wheels for the truck without changing the way it rides too much, and I'm actually looking for an 18" wheel. It's not so much the wheel I'm worried about (although I don't know much about this offset stuff), but I'm wondering what tires everybody else is running? I'm not looking for anything too extreme, like the Nitto Trail Grapplers, but I don't want anything strictly for the highway either. I'm looking for an all-terrain tire that's fairly aggressive but still practical for a daily driver. The other requirement is that it has to meet the ice/snow standard up here in BC, Canada. So I'm just looking to see what anybody else is running for tires if you happen to be around an 18" wheel .... Thanks!

If your looking for a more aggressive but mild set-up for daily driving ... I would just keep the stock 20's (they are nice looking wheels) and upgrade your tires to a good AT in 285/65/20 such as the BFG AT's. I have seen a lot of pics on here with that set up. Just search / browse the forum and you will find lot's of posts about the above. Good luck!

Hey, I live in BC too (Prince George) My honest recommendation would be to just buy tires and with the money you save get a separate set of cheap steal rims and set of studded winter-force tires for the winter, since nobody in BC knows how to take care of a road. They barely plow and they drop gravel on the highways instead of salt and sand and to top it all off there are barely any guardrails… which is idiotic. Because they do this you are left with big slick patches of ice as the as the snow packs down and your biggest hazards are in the shadows of the mountains where it’s clear in the sun and then a skating rink the second you round a corner.

ANYWAY the reason for my rant is this, All Terrain tires are fantastic in snow but they aren't the greatest on ice which is when you need the most traction. On top of that if you buy a nice set of rims and use them in the winter here the gravel will pit the sh*t out of them (speaking from experience)

However if you choose to stick with one set of tires and rims to use all year around, the BFG AT would be my choice... but they won't be the safest in the winter up here and you might destroy your new rims.
