Question New 1500 SLT - 2 Physical Keys & 2 Fobs

Forgive me if this sounds stupid, my for Ram truck. I took delivery of a new 2013 1500 SLT Crew Cab with the Bighorn package. The dealer handed me 2 Key Fobs (for starting the truck, lock and unlock buttons, etc...), got what those are for. He then handed me 2 more physical keys that are not fobs and have no buttons on them, I have no idea what those are for. Dealer did not know. Anyone know?

There is a key inside the fobs as well. The keys I am referring to are 2 keys with a round top with the ram logo on them, just not sure what they are for, do not seem they would fit into the ignition. I originally thought valet key.

The other 2 keys are for the locking tailgate.

The key inside the key fob should only open the door, if you have no power so at least you aren't locked out.

when i had my locking tailgate installed
i had the Valet Key for the door inside the FOBs
after they installed the locking tailgate, they reset the tumblers in the tailgate so it is now the same as the doors tumblers

Thanks for the info. i tried the key that is part of the fob on the door and the tailgate, both lock and unlock the doors and tailgate. So I guess that key is just extra for now.

The full size key is for the tailgate.

You do not want to be using the key inside the fob for the tailgate on a regular basis, or you will end up lsoing it once the lock that holds it in the fob wears out.

Those are designed for emergency use, not daily use, otherwise they wouldn't have spent the money to give you the fullsize keys too.

Or you could just get the power lock kit for the tailgate. No messing with keys, lock the doors, tailgate also gets locked.

Are you saying that on 2013 RAMs the tailgate doesn't lock and unlock using the fob/remote? You're kidding, right?

My remote works the tailgate on my 13 tradesman.
I believe it is for people who work hard to lock their keyfob in the truck while working so it won't break. I can tell you I broke the one on my wife previous grand caravan. I only take the physical key into work and unlock the doors the oldschool way.

Ok, that makes perfect sense. I couldn't imagine the tailgate not locking remotely.

My tailgate locks with the remote, I have an SLT with the BigHorn package, I did not see a separate option on my window sticker for that so I am thinking that is stock. This thread has gotten off track a bit, I was just wondering what the extra key was for, I got that answer.
