Default Hitchsafe Installation and Review

Grubrunner mentioned this mod in a string on the 2013 section of the forum. I told him I would be buying one and he asked me to review it once I did. He already has one and swears by it and I gotta tell ya, it's pretty awesome.

A lot of the road trips I take are out of cell range so the probability of me being able to use the uconnect app to unlock my truck if I lock myself out is slim.

This is extra piece of mind for less than $50 on Amazon. I will also be keeping a key to my girlfriend's Challenger in there in case she locks herself out in a similar situation and I'm out on the road able to assist.

Dial doesn't feel cheap, it's a good sturdy dial and you can tell when you spin it that it is of good quality.

The inside of the safe is pretty small but more than enough room for a fob and key or several keys.

Total install time is less than 60 seconds. Once the cams are locked in there with the locking mechanism there is no getting this thing off or out without the combination.

The combination is easy to change whenever you want. Grubrunner stated that he has never had an incidence of water or dirt getting inside the safe.

I don't but Grubrunner stated that he has never gotten a spec of water in there. There is a heavy duty cover that goes over the top of the hitchsafe when not in use, so that'll keep the elements off of it while driving around.

Congratulations on your purchase.

It's not only wise and a great looking USEFULL product, but it'll serve you well for many years.

Rep points but I have to hand out some first.

wow that is awesome!! I always kept a spare key on my old truck in the bumper in a magnetic box, but it was just a normal key, no electronic fob. now my ram has the key fob and I haven't wanted to put it in the same spot in fear of it getting wet. this is a great little mod!!

probably wont do it though. love my three ball/hook receiver too much

I think someone could also take another hitch cover that they really like (NY Yankees for me), and saw off the receiver plug portion for a flat surface and then glue that to this cover if they wanted to have both.

A word of warning to owners of 13-14 model yr trucks with keyless entry. Putting a spare fob in there MIGHT be close enough to ignition that vehicle could be driven away....
Just a thought
Great product for ALL other years IMHO

Yeah, I was thinking that. Although, it may be surrounded by enough steel to form a shield for radio emissions, so maybe its OK. Also, if you try 10 combinations per minute it takes 16 hours to get through every possible combination. That means an average of 8 hours to break in. Probably no thief is going to invest 8 hours in stealing your truck, but you never know...
