With equal driving styles, hand calculating I bet.

I have a friend who averages 25 mpg in a 2001 cummins if you ask him. If you do the math for him it's a lot different. By about 10mpg.
So yeah, subjective.
My cc averages 16 last i checked with mixed driving, some hard miles in there too. I'll bet you'll find qc and rc with 3.55 worse than that.
When I go on trips it's easily over 20.

I've got a 2010 CC 4x4 Laramie with 3.55s. (Tire size is 305/55/20s) I recently drove from central TX to southeast AL and back along I-10 and didn't encounter any gear hunting and with the cruise set at about 80 I averaged about 16.9 for the trip and that was including a week of "City" driving if you call Dothan a city I also wasn't towing anything and the highest MSL altitude was about 400 feet.

My wife just went from Hamilton Tx to Dothan Al in her 13 grand caravan via I20 and avg 28 mpgs.
I have a 4.7L with the 3:55 gears and on my longest trip so far ( about 100 one way miles and the truck hasn't past 1500 miles yet) I averaged 19.6 doing the math I filled up right before and right after. It seems like my mpg computer is accurate if set at the beginning of the trip. I didn't notice any gear hunting in the Tax hill country it would shift to 5th on some hills and in a couple big hills it went to 4th but it didn't need to find the right gear it just shifted down as needed then back to 6th gear. Overall I am happy with my gears.

One of those questions that in the end I wouldn't let it change my mind either way. If is the exact truck I wanted except the gear ratio between 3:55's and 3:92's I don't think it would matter. For a normal truck, doing normal driving and normal use. If you know you are going to throw 37's on it or you know you will be towing 6K lbs all the time then it matters. Or you know you are going to keep it stock and never tow anything over say 1500lbs just get the 3:21's LOL. But for everyday use each set has a couple of pro's and a couple of con's that shouldn't swing you either way IMO.

Interesting thread....Perhaps I didn't look into what I was buying enough when I bought. I have a 2013 Ram 4x4 Crew with 3.55 gears and towing package.
We travel as photographers and looking to buy an RV....dod I need to change the gears? How big of a deal is it to do?
Tell me more about weight distribution hitches..
Thanks....
